Developing a Team Culture

In one of my discussion with few leaders, we started talking about how to harness the collective power of the group that helps improve individual performance and commitment. Why is it important to develop a team culture?   Shaping a team culture and setting norms and values is crucial for harnessing the collective power of a group to improve individual performance and commitment. Here are some steps to achieve this: Define Clear Goals and Expectations : Clearly communicate the team's goals, objectives, and individual roles within the team. When everyone understands what they are working towards, it becomes easier to align efforts and foster commitment. Encourage Open Communication : Create an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing their ideas, concerns, and feedback. Encourage active listening and constructive dialogue to foster collaboration and problem-solving. Establish Trust : Trust is the foundation of any successful team. Importance of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) for Leaders

ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) considerations have become increasingly important in today's business landscape. Developing a robust framework and ensuring compliance with ESG principles is crucial for companies to not only meet regulatory requirements but also to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.   Education is the key. Understanding why ESG matters, both for our own well-being and for the health of the planet, is fundamental for individuals, businesses, and societies as a whole. It's not just about ticking boxes; it's about understanding the interconnectedness of environmental protection, social justice, and good governance in creating a sustainable future.   By educating ourselves and integrating ESG principles into decision-making processes, we can contribute to positive change and ensure that industries operate in a way that benefits both people and the planet in the long term.   Some countries, like Norway...

Leaders find a right balance between conviction & validation.

There are two kind of leaders. One with strong sense of conviction and the other with strong sense of validation. Finding a right balance is the key.   Leaders with strong conviction are often seen as bold and decisive, capable of driving change and inspiring others with their vision. They tend to be action-oriented and thrive in dynamic environments where quick decisions are necessary.    Leaders with a strong sense of conviction bring energy to their decision-making process. They're driven by a clear purpose and are willing to take risks, learning as they go. Their confidence and determination can inspire others to follow suit, creating momentum within the team or organization.    However, they may be prone to tunnel vision and risk overlooking alternative perspectives or potential pitfalls.    On the other hand, leaders who prioritize clarity may be more cautious and deliberative in their decision-making process. They seek input from others a...

Persuasion

Persuasion – why this is more important than ever   In one of my discussion with a Business Head, we spoke about how persuasion skill is important for any Leader and why it was becoming more necessary than ever. Persuasion works by appealing to a set of deeply rooted human drives and needs. Persuasion can be taught, learned and applied.    Robert B. Cialdini is a renowned psychologist and author known for his work on persuasion and influence.  I happen to read an article written by Robert B. Cialdini that talks about 'Harnessing the Science of Persuasion'.  He outlines six key principles of persuasion that can be effectively applied by leaders in various organizational contexts. These principles are:   ·        Liking: People are more inclined to say yes to those they know, like, and trust. Leaders can build rapport and likability by finding common ground, showing genuine interest in others, and using techniques such as mirrori...

Solitude's Symphony: A Birding Odyssey in Ganeshgudi, Karnataka.

Image
A Birding Odyssey : Ganeshgudi In the quiet embrace of the Western Ghats, nestled among the lush canopies of Karnataka, lies Ganeshgudi—a haven for avian enthusiasts, a sanctuary for the soul. For me, it wasn't just a destination; it was a pilgrimage, a journey into the heart of nature's symphony.   As I embarked on my solo expedition to Ganeshgudi, armed with my camera and a heart brimming with anticipation, I found myself engulfed in a world of verdant beauty and tranquil serenity. The air was thick with the fragrance of damp earth and the promise of discovery.   My days began with the chorus of dawn—a melodic cacophony of avian calls echoing through the mist-laden valleys. With each step into the wilderness, I felt a sense of liberation, as if shedding the burdens of civilization and embracing the untamed spirit of the wild.   The forest became my sanctuary, and every tree, every leaf seemed to whisper secrets of ancient wisdom. Each bird that graced my lens was not ju...

I Have Two Careers

Image
I Have Two Careers   I was reading this interesting write up by  Kabir Sehgal   “Why You Should Have (at least) Two Careers”  and it made me think and ponder upon.    Kabir says “you also will be dreaming about switching to a career that’s drastically different from your current job. It’s rare for people to make a leap, the cost of switching is too high, and possibility of success is low. The answer here isn’t to plug away in your current job, unfulfilled and slowly burning out. The answer is to do both. Two careers are better than one. And by committing to two careers, you will produce benefits of both”.   As I put my own experience in this write-up, you will visualize, how this has helped me.   In my case I have three vocations: I work with Entrepreneurs and Corporate Clients; I am a Wildlife & Nature Photographer and I also write. I have been asked this question many a time and they ask, “How do I find time to do it all’? My answer to them ...
