An Explorer - My changing beliefs

What are my beliefs and are these beliefs preventing me from looking at situations differently?

My experiences have framed a lot of my beliefs. These beliefs have played a major role whenever I have made decisions, popular or unpopular. They have grown within me over the years and have started driving my thoughts. They have made me judgemental many a times, when I did not see situations falling into place the way I visualised them. What if I fail…what if others don’t approve of my views…what if I am not accepted… what if???

They say when a certain set of beliefs start creating a bias in your decisions, you should let go of them.

The stronger the beliefs the longer it takes to get out of them. They tend to overpower your thoughts and drive your judgements.

As a Coach, I have learnt to let go off some of my beliefs and I will have to continue to do so. These include beliefs that stop me from looking at things with a new and fresh perspective, that don’t let me experience things as if I’m experiencing them for the first time. Every discussion, I discover something new. Coming from a situation of emptiness within own self is a revelation of self, let alone the experience that you can bring in the life of a Coachee.

The impact of carrying good things in you and making it a part of you allows you to explore the possibilities that are there at that moment. Live in the moment, have faith in self and let go of those beliefs and prejudices that take away from the enormous opportunities that you can have and create.

Be a Child. A child who explores things without expecting a result or outcome, with only the end purpose of joy, happiness and sense of fulfillment. With a smile…one situation, one possibility at a time.

So next time, ask a question: is there a possibility of finding something new, to gain a new experience? Why should I do the same thing, just because I got success doing it the last time? Can I be an explorer? Let me attempt even if I fail. Let me do something new.

I am sharing with you one of my stories. I took a long journey on my bike few years back. The journey was riding from Gurgaon to Goa in five days covering 350 kms a day. Had ups and downs, fears and apprehensions, curiosity and uncertainty,  loneliness and sense of belonging, goal and a sense of fulfilment. My strength came from my conviction, my fellow riders and my coach.

Be an Explorer. Walk the journey you have not walked before. Let me assure you, it will be like finding a whole new person within yourself!!

  5. Your ability to relate learning to real life instances takes the writing to a level of a life lesson. This seems like an emerging pattern in your blogs. Your last blog used the love for the camera as an allegory and here you are drawing on your passion for biking.

  6. Very well articulated, Sir. The thought of ‘What if’ stops most of us from exploring new things and gaining new perspectives. To be like a child and explore is very important. Thanks for sharing this through your blog.
